Guided and inspired by personal experiences, Thoughts and Feelings presents a collection of paintings on silk; intimate moments, jokes between friends, life at home and being home in my studio. This collection details the search for the perfect tension and balance between these everlasting contrasts, that ebb and flow through existence and creation…
Soft and Strength,
Vague and Specific,
Calm and Chaos,
High and Low culture,
Meaningful and Meaningless.
I started painting on silk in 2018 during a residency in New Zealand, after learning a new craft I can still notice the ties to my core symbolism. The line, the intrinsic connection to tattooing, subconsciously rippling into the design of my work via boldness or intricate detail, and my lifelong obsession with flowers; the endless ways they can be drawn, interpreted and brought to life. These silks depict who I am, what I like and the imagery that surrounds my world; a life lived in pursuit of connection, freedom and joy. Thoughts and Feelings is a new collection of modern day Heraldry and my innermost armorial bearings.

Situated in Aotearoa’s Whaingaroa Harbour (Raglan, New Zealand), Purlieu Residency is a hybrid between a tattoo guest spot and an Artist-in-residence program.
Purlieu promotes the development of traditional, contemporary and experimental tattooing.
For a month I lived and worked in a bell tent at Te Kopua campground. I produced silk banners inspired by the flags flown by the Marae and the semiotics behind heraldry. Each banner has a personal narrative, the silks depict my memories, dreams and visions, where my every day mingles with the surreal.
